JW Marriott Phu Quoc, the first resort branded JW Marriot in Vietnam, is honored to have Mr. Bill Bensley incorporate an inspirational story of the legendary Lamarck University (Lam U) into its design. This story was inspired when he first witnessed the wild beauty of tropical paradise, Phu Quoc Island.
As the story goes, Lamarck University was founded by the French in 1894 and was the first university in Phu Quoc at that time. The school is named after the French naturalist Jean Baptiste Lamarck and is located in the busy commercial area near Bai Kem. With many great scientific studies contributing to human knowledge, Lamarck University has quickly became one of the leading universities in Asia specializing in the field of natural science.
In the 1940s, the Frech left and Lamarck University was forced to close. Many years later, one of the largest investors in Vietnam, Sun Group, decided to "restore" this prestigious school, but in a unique style with a completely new name: JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa. They invited "Resort Prince" Bill Bensley to survey and design the school into one of the World's Classiest Resorts. In 2017, Lamarck University was reborn as a five-star resort and hotel complex in Phu Quoc, stretching on the beautiful white sand and turquoise water, and managed by JW Marriott brand. JW Marriott Phu Quoc is the newest resort with 243 specially designed rooms. This reincarnation is referred to as "convergence" when the unique design language meets the world-class service: Crafted Service, Sophisticated Cuisine, and Authentic Value.
