The UNESCO World Heritage Site town is surrounded by thickly forested mountains and situated at the confluence of the Khan and Mekong Rivers, and has a tranquil, old-world charm. Go out to wander the Luang Prabang Night Market - Gorgeous little Luang Prabang in Laos is quite the tourist hot spot these days yet still retains its sleepy Laos charm and the Luang Prabang Night Market is one of the best of it’s kind in the world and delughts tourists with it’s crafts, trinkets and sreet food, but every day you’ll see market activity on the streets. Luang Prabang markets are fascinating and diverse at night and packed with interesting street food to try while lined with chic little restaurants. Let’s explore.
It is a must-see in Luang Prabang! We will arrange a pre-dawn start with your guide at 05:30 to witness Tak Bat, or alms-giving ceremony, to hundreds of saffron-clad monks – an awe-inspiring ancient ritual. Visit a bustling morning market before returning to your hotel for breakfast. Take a guided audio tour of the Royal Palace Museum, housing precious possessions of the former Lao Royal family. Explore various architectural feats, including 19th century Wat Xiengthong Temple, and Wat Visoun, nicknamed the watermelon stupa. Gain insight into the ethnic culture at the Arts and Ethnology Center, and head to the textile villages of Ban Xangkhong and Ban Xienglek. Ascend 328 steps up Mount Phousi to watch the sunset over the Mekong. Kindly note that the Royal Palace is closed on Tuesdays.
Late afternoon, you will have a unique chance to participate in a traditional ‘Baci Ceremony’. The purpose of this traditional Laotian ceremony is to to call escaped spirits back to the body, an animist tradition that is very important for Lao people before major events such as weddings, births, travel or when welcoming friends, to bring good luck. The ceremony is led by one of the village highly respected elderly and involves offerings to spirits and tying of strings to each other’s wrists to lock in the good spirits. We are sure that this experience has make your tour to Luang Prabang so special. Optional dinner and dancing performance shall be arranged upon request. Tonight you will spend a peaceful night in Luang Prabang.
Breakfast at hotel and today is a special day as you will experience one of the best ethical elephant sanctuary. The sanctuary is situated in the 500-acre property is located about 30 minutes away from Luang Prabang’s Old Town, and is an ideal home for its elephants to roam free – unchained. No bull hooks, no riding, no chaining. With the guidance of their mahouts who use verbal commands, the elephants socialize in their natural groups, play and bathe in the river and eat plenty of bananas and corn supplied from the villages nearby. This half day tour is a golden chance for you to interact responsibly with the resident elephants, and while the elephants may not be able to roam the wild again they are given every opportunity to perform their natural behaviors. On this experience, you will also enjoy 2-hour trek and it will take you through beautiful Lao jungle, past traditional Lao farms, and past the cool Huay Nok stream, where you may experience elephants playing joyfully in the water. As you walk alongside the elephants on a small dirt path listening to their gentle footsteps and the sounds of the jungle around you, you will experience a profound sense of understanding, respect, and caring for these amazing animals. Following lunch you will take the short ride back into Luang Prabang.
Breakfast and followed by a short transfer to the river pier where you will board on a traditional long tail boat at 08:30 am and take a leisurely cruise upstream while enjoying the refreshments served on the boat. Along the way, you will marvel at the thousands of gold Buddha statues placed in sacred Pak Ou caves by devotees. Most people failed to marvel at Pak Ou towering limestone cliff. Continue upriver and you would reach Kamu Lodge around noon. A Refreshing welcome drink is served. You can check into your super size tents with attached modern bathroom amenities and facilities. You will enjoy lunch in an airy SALA settled in the middle of rice paddy fields. After lunch, you can choose to either relax or to enjoy the traditional Kamu lifestyles and activities such as rice planting and harvesting in surrounding rice fields, gold panning in the Mekong (anything you find is Yours!), traditional fishing techniques (you can sample your catch for dinner!), visit of the kamu village, archery contest. Dinner is a feast by Kamu tribe standards. We want you to see the world from the Kamu’s eyes. After dinner, retire to your tent.
After breakfast and lunch you will board around 02:00 pm for the cruise back to Luang Prabang, go straightly to the airport where you will board a scheduled flight to Siem Reap. Met and greeted upon arrival by a local tour guide and then you will enjoy a private transfer to hotel. Settling into your accommodation and the remainder of the day will be at leisure. Explore one of the seven wonders of the world with a fascinating full day tour of the glorious, ancient and impressive Angkor Wat. This stunning temple complex boasts five magnificent towers and vast gallery complex, with the main attraction being the dominating Angkor Wat, which magically reflects in nearby water at sunrise and sunset. Head onwards to Angkor Thom, a moated royal city in the bayon style of large faces on all sides. Discover the fascinating water world of Kampong Khleang and the picturesque temple ruins at Beng Mealea on this day tour. Take a two hour ride on a local boat to reach Kampong Khleang, and learn how nearly 20,000 people still live the way their ancestors did, near the beautiful Tonle Sap Lake. Admire the ecological and social intricacies of the land that have sustained the local community through the years. Watch the flooded forest (the waters recede during the low water season) and the colorful floating houses, before settling down to a scrumptious picnic lunch. Enjoy local delicacies from Downtown Siem Reap in a traditional wooden house by the lake. After a satisfying luncheon eaten out of packed baskets, travel down to the ruins of Beng Mealea. This is essentially the ruins of an ancient, 900 year old temple complex overgrown by jungles.
