Welcome to Cambodia! Good morning Siem Reap! Upon arrival at Siem Reap International Airport you are met and welcomed by a local representative. After breakfast and today you will enjoy a full day to take an comprehensive exploration of the majestic temples and sites of the Small Circuit of Angkor Archaeological Park. You’ll visit first to the Ta Prohm, one of the Angkor complex’s most atmospheric temples. Built during the 12th and 13th centuries, Ta Prohm has been left largely as it was found. Overgrown by trees and vines, Ta Prohm is a moving sight as it crumbles gracefully back into the jungle that is reclaiming it. Next is tour the ancient city of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire. The impressive entrance through the South Gate, carved with elephants and four giant faces, will no doubt leave an indelible impression. Stroll through this ancient city surrounded by 8-meter-high walls that create a perfect-square periphery. The highlight of the Small Circuit is the Bayon temple - a masterpiece of 12th century Khmer craftsmanship. Its 54 towers represent the 54 provinces of the Khmer empire, as well as magnificent bas-reliefs at the Terrace of the Leper King and the Terrace of the Elephants. You’ll have a chance to escape from the midday heat and relax at your hotel, perhaps taking a dip in the pool. The rest of the afternoon will be free to spend at your leisure. Overnight at the hotel.
Rising at the crack of dawn, we journey out to visit the Cambodia's iconic image, and one of the most mystical temples, Angkor Wat. Built in the 12th century and it is believed to be the world's largest religious building, this temple is the perfect fusion of symbolism and symmetry and a source of pride and strength to all Khmers. We stay at Angkor Wat to enjoy a picnic breakfast. As the crowds return to their hotels, we venture into Angkor Wat to enjoy its magnificence in peace and quiet, beginning at the bas-reliefs that tell of tales from Hindu mythology and of the glories of the Khmer empire. Back to the hotel to relax for the rest of morning.
Breakfast at the hotel and followed by a private transfer to the airport to take a scheduled morning flight to Phnom Penh. Arriving into the Cambodia capital, you’ll take a 4-hour guided excursion with a local expert. You will take in the dazzling Royal Palace, whose burnished tiers sweep skywards, looking down on the Silver Pagoda. Otherwise, there’s the country’s tragic past, showcased in the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum – a high school turned deathcamp. There’s also the option of exploring with a tuk tuk rickshaw tour, bringing you among such city sights as the Independence Monument and the garden-ringed Wat Phnom temple.
Breakfast at hotel and followed is a scenic drive on or private air-conditioned vehicle to Kandal province. Ride an ox cart to the rice fields to see local people do farming techniques. You can join in the activities with them if desire. Stroll through the peaceful villages and wander to meet local people and see how they live and work. Enjoy a delicious, safely prepared Khmer lunch with a Cambodian family in their traditional wooden, stilted home. Return to the city in late afternoon.
