Good morning Hanoi - the charming Vietnamese capital of Vietnam. You will be met and greeted by a local representative and enjoy a private transfer to the city. Checking into your accommodation and remainder of the day will be at your own leisure. Hanoi is a bustling and fascinating place – a whirlwind of colours, smells and sounds and a wonderful place to get a real flavour of life in Vietnam. Overnight at hotel
Breakfast is followed by a comprehensive city orientation which you will have a chance to get closer to see ochre-coloured colonial buildings, tree-lined boulevards and scenic lakes. You will explore the city's historic landmarks and sights. The moring tour is spent with a visit to see the historic Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh’s house on stilt where his belongings are on display and next is to visit One Pillar Pagoda - a historic Buddhist temple which was originally built in the 11st century and now is one of iconic temple of Hanoi city. Just a short distant drive will take you to visit the Temple of Literature which is made up of five temples and peaceful courtyards within one complex and parts date back to the 11th Century.
After a lunch break, you will then enjoy a visit Hoa Lo prison - South East Asia's top 5 macabre destinations which was used by the French colonists in French Indochina for Vietnamese political prisoners, and later it was nicknamed the 'Hanoi Hilton' by US prisoners of war (POWs) that housed American prisoners of war -- invited memories of a long and bitter war.
You will then take an in-depth tour on rickshaw "cyclo" to explore of the city's incredible and bustling part of the city. It is "Pho Co" or Old Quarters, where each street was historically dedicated to a specific trade or material, such as bamboo, silk and lacquer. While touring the narrow streets, learn about the history of the Old Quarter and its traditional architecture, and see how it has transformed into a fashionable district with cafes, art galleries and boutiques featuring the finest Vietnamese design and style. You will also attend and enjoy a performance of Hanoi's renowned water puppet show, or attend a performance at the landmark Hanoi Opera House. Back to the hotel and you will spend your evening free. Breakfast at hotel in Hanoi is followed by a five-hour drive on a private vehicle to Lao Cai province from where there we will make our way to Topas Ecolodge - an incredible and "One and Only" lodge which is situated on a very beautiful hilltop in Thanh Kim village, deep in the mountains of Hoang Lien National Park only 45 minutes outside Sapa town. Welcomed by very friendly staff upon arrival at the lodge and you will check into your accommodation - a rustic chalet-style bungalow. From your house, you can enjoy magnificent views of towering peaks and endless valleys dotted with ethnic minority villages.
Relax for a while and you will enjoy a 2.5 hour guided walking tour, along the way you will have a chance to capture a great view of the rice terraces below. You then take a slightly ascent to Lech village. You will now visit a wooden local house, meet the friendly Red Dao hosts and experience their daily way of life. the Red Dzao hill tribes are famous for beautiful handmade embroidery. On the way back, you will walk on small trails passing rice terraces and cross a suspension bridge, where you can take some great pictures of the nature landscape. Evening is free at leisure. Starting your morning taking a few minutes into fresh air outside then you will enjoy a great breakfast and prepare for today´s walk. At 9:00 AM, you will begin the excursion with a transfer on our private vehicle into Hoang Lien National Park to the trek starting point near Sin Chai village. You are now “off the beaten track” enjoying beautiful views of high mountains, waterfalls and the deep valleys.
The trails will soon lead you to the Red Dao village of Nam Nhiu, here you will meet the villagers, enjoy a cup of green tea in their house, and learn about their daily way of life. Leaving the village behind, you will turn into a small dirt trail and soon be inspired by the marvelous view of the rice valley dotted with bamboo huts, which used by local farmers as overnight lodge in harvesting days. Passing the rice terraces and a river you will walk on a quiet road for a while before arriving at Nam Cang village. Your lunch is served at Nam Cang Riverside Lodge, with jungle behind the lodge and river in front. At 14:50, you will have a transfer back to Topas Ecolodge. Here you may want to book an optional traditional Red Dao herbal bath at the lodge’s newly opened spa.
After great breakfast again prepared by Topas Ecoldge, your morning will be spent at your own leisure or you will can either relax or borrow free of charge high quality mountain bikes to explore villages and surrounding areas. You can also take a scheduled shuttle bus to have a quick visit Sapa town or book a half day tour to explore the highest peak of Indochina, Mt. Fansipan (3.143m) by the newly launched cable car. At 14:00 you will be transferred back to Hanoi. Arriving in Hanoi at aroud 19:00. Checking into your accommodation and stay overnight in Hanoi.
Breafast at hotel and we will depart for Halong Bay, we go through the scenic countryside. The wondrous Halong Bay is truly one of Vietnam’s most impressive scenic sights. Heading out of the town we embark on a boat for an exploration of the legendary Halong Bay. This exciting cruise will provide us a fantastic view of the picturesque scenery blending with the sky and some 3,000 limestone islands rising amazingly from the clear and emerald water. The limestone karsts formations are littered with beaches, grottoes and beautiful caves. Along the way we will anchor for a leisurely swim in a secluded cove and an enjoyable visit to one of the many hidden grottoes beneath towering cliffs. Stay overnight on the cruise in Halong Bay.
After breakfast, transfer to your day – trip boat with private crew and cruise to the bay’s most untouched areas. Enjoy swimming on quiet beaches, visiting water tunnels, fishing villages or kayaking. Lunch served on board by your private chef. Return to the mother boat for the night. Overnight aboard.
Greet the day with a morning Tai Chi exercise with an opportunity to view the sunrise over the bay. After breakfast, visit beautiful limestone grotto then back to the boat for a final glimpse of the Halong Bay while cruising back to the dock. Private transfer to hotel in Hanoi. Evening will be free at leisure.
Breakfast at the hotel and you will spend your morning at leisure, relaxing at the hotel and you will make your own exploration to the old quarters for shopping. You can also book another optional cultural with us to see more sights of the city, meet artist. At 15:00, you will be escorted by a Hanoian lady for a guided tour of Hanoi's local food market. We buy all the ingredients for our class and design our menu based on the best and freshest produce available that day. We then return to the host's house by car for an interesting cooking demonstrations with hands on involvement and many food tastings. Enjoy very delicious dinner with our friendly Hanoian host. Transfer back to hotel. Overnight in Hanoi.
The morning will be spent at leisure before you are transferred to Noi Bai International for an outbound flight back to a next destination or the country of origin after a memorable 10-day Northern Vietnam tour covering Hanoi, Sapa and Halong Bay.
